Some bullies just need to be put in their place...
... Give me a good Styx song and I’ll get them there.
Joclyn and Ilyan are hiding after Ryland and my no-good brother Cail tracked them down. At least I hope they are, because from what I am hearing no one can find them. Which is good, because things in Imdalind are breaking down.
Okay, maybe not breaking down. More like cracking and burning faster than a pile of matchsticks.
Edmund has taken control of Imdalind, and Talon and I are suddenly locked in a twisted dungeon with a rather confusing set of cage-fellows. Ryland and Sain.
At least torture and mayhem is better in a group. Insert eyeroll here.
Turns out I am the only one sane enough, and strong enough, to get us out of here. Which is fine, because I also have a few secrets that are just burning to escape.
Cue the 70s rock, I need a soundtrack to take these guys down!
I was charged to be her protector...
... keeping her alive is proving to be harder than I thought.
Joclyn has been under my protection for a thousand years, even before I found her. Before she breathed her first breath.
At the rate we are going she may breathe her last far too soon.
I thought we had escaped my father, I thought that she was safe. But that bastard and his minions have found a way to attack her somewhere that I cannot reach.
Her mind.
I must keep her alive, and find a way to keep her attempts at fighting the beast inside of her, from killing everyone around her.
Danger! Torture! Adventure! Ilyan! Yeah, I know it’s the last one that you want.

Scorched Treachery Imdalind Series Book 3 eBook Rebecca Ethington
Okay my lovelies, so you know how in my review for Eyes of Ember I said that it was a tangled web we weave because of a possible love triangle? Yeah well screw you love triangle. This book blows whatever webs you weave out of the water.Eyes of Ember left off with Jocelyn trapped in the nightmare of Cail's mind and the games he was playing with her. Scorched Treachery starts off while Joclyn is trapped in the tormenting hell of Cail’s mind, and the battle around her only continues to grow and spread.
*
Edmund has infiltrated the underground hallways of Prague, guiding the massacre that would end the lives of the last of the great magical race. In her attempts to stop him, Wynifred has been captured and her magic restrained. Chained up in the ancient dungeons of Prague, her fate is left in the hands of her father, who has tried to kill her before.
With Ryland’s screams and Sain’s fragmented sights as her only company, Wyn must rely on something that has been hidden deep inside of her for centuries to help them break free.
*
Ilyan’s whole life has been building up to one purpose. Protect the Silnỳ. He knows what he must do, and he has no doubt in his ability to do so.
But when his father’s magic removes Joclyn’s mind from her body, he is left protecting the shell of the one person he loves. Desperate to find a way to break her free of her prison, he makes a choice. And that one choice changes everything.
Now, Ilyan finds himself bound to Joclyn in a way that he never knew to be possible.
They say that blood is thicker than water, but Black Water burns, and Ilyan’s heart may not be strong enough to keep it pumping through his veins and give the girl he loves back into his brother’s care.
Even if he can, it may not be safe to do so.

Yeah, so happy times at Ridgemont High huh? NOT! You know what my one and only update to goodreads was for this book? At 67% Saying "You suck. This book sucks. I hate crying. Why did it have to be so good?"
<img src="http://media0.giphy.com/media/tj2G69gsHn8c/200_s.gif">
Yupp. I was that sucked into it the whole time, on the edge of my seat, the page, pulling my hair out, biting my nails, talking or screaming at the characters, until I hit 67%, then I couldn't hold it in or keep it to myself anymore. (Note I didn't spoil anything!)
But oh yes, this book will scorch and sear you. You will cry, and anguish, ruminiate, and want to destroy things before it's over, but despite all that You will love this book like a slow sweet burn, simmering under your skin. There will be betrayals, as the title suggests, new friendships, deepening friendships, loss, and so much more.
For me, however, oh I didn't know whether to consider Ilyan or Wyn the main character and apple of my eye in this book. They both have captured my heart so fully, and I was always so invested in them, although there are so many other characters in play here. Dramin, Sain, Thom, Ryland, Edmund, Wyn, Ilyan, Talon, Joclyn, Ovalia and more. With so many people in play, who is/are the traitors? Who can you trust?

What I absolutely loved about this book was that it never lost momentum and I was constantly on my toes, guessing what would come next, trying to figure out the grand scheme of things, but Rebecca is too good at throwing twist after plot twist at you then running away like a kid yelling NOT IT!
<img src="https://i0.wp.com/media3.giphy.com/media/cqdBfG6mFamru/giphy.gif">
Or an overzealous sea witch.
Not only was the plot constantly advancing but there was even more character development, as if they could develop any more!! Yes that's right, they're still growing folks. Wynifred especially. And perhaps Ilyan and Joclyn's relationship as well...?
I forewarn, that the POV and location is in constant flux, from Ilyan at the caves to Wyn in a dungeon with Edmund, Ryland, and Sain. While normally having shifting povs annoys me to some degree, I actually enjoyed the change of scenery--to understand Wyn and Ilyan and see inside their minds, what they think, their unfiltered thoughts, and not just what they actually say.
I don't know if I have a bad word to say about this book other than, Damn you for making me cry, you horrible sadist, and I love you, please make it all better.
Read it!!!! You must read it! Or pick up the series if you haven't.

Scorched Treachery Imdalind Series Book 3 eBook Rebecca Ethington Reviews
Wow! Ok so I was not expecting to like this book as well as I did the first two, but I think I may have liked it more than them!
Scorched Treachery is book three of Rebecca Ethington’s Imdalind series and unlike the first two installments, it is told from the alternating POVs of Ilyan and Wyn during the two weeks that Joclyn is trapped in Cail’s mind. Ilyan struggles with the conflicting needs to protect and save Joclyn and protect what is left of his people. Wyn is just trying to survive her imprisonment by Edmund, but learns an awful truth about her past.
This story captured my attention from the beginning! And there are many things that occur that the author warns she will not repeat in later installments so if you are thinking about skipping it don’t!! You will regret it. I loved seeing inside Ilyan’s mind, feeling his helplessness and utter devotion to Joclyn is both heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. Ugh! and Wyn! The revelations about her character are both shocking and surreal! I knew from reading Eyes of Ember that there was more to her story after Thom’s reaction to the news she was captured, but it was nothing at all that I could have predicted. I love it when an author surprises me!
There’s not much world-building in this book as it is set around events that have already occurred, however I feel it is an excellent addition to this series. Ahhhh! and the ending! The last few chapters are set after Joclyn awakes and are told in her POV. Let’s just say there is a nice little surprise that will keep you on the edge of your seat for book four! Can’t wait for Soul of Flames!!!
So, while I was at first read the bio about the book I was slightly disappointed realizing that it was not a continuation of the previous story but would show the POVs of Ilyan and Wyn during the period that Joclyn was trapped in Cail’s mind. I was honestly skeptical…… HOWEVER when I started reading the book I discovered there was so much needed information in this book that wasn’t in the last book because it was focused on what Joclyn was going thru. You get a glimpse into Ilyan and Wyn’s past. You get to know Wyn better while she is imprisoned by Edmund with Ryland and Sain. Through Wyn’s POV you get to see what Edmund is truly capable of, as well as uncovering a past that Wyn took drastic measures to forget. Even knowing later events from the previous books – Joclyn waking up – I was still on the edge of my seat while reading as Ilyan attempted everything in his power to ensure she wakes up and ultimately making a choice that changes everything!
I personally don’t mind that this book switches POV throughout – as long as the story still flows and it doesn’t jump back and forth too much – which this one doesn’t. It alternates leaving little cliffhangers that causes you to want to skip ahead and find out what happens but keeps the story flowing well.
